There is no way that le and or and a can be the same sound, why is this Wikibook missing IPA transcriptions? I got the gist of Ö from the table underneath but the sentence provided at the top of the article completely baffles me, People is not the same sound as Curled, not in RP, nor in American English, nor in Australian or NZ English. +Hexagon1 (talk) 02:52, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I just stumbled across this book, and indeed some of the pronunciations are incorrect. I fixed the obvious ones I found by a quick look, and added IPA pronunciations. I didn't have time to check the whole article yet, so there still might be some inaccuracies. I'll see if I can do that later. --Jarkko Piiroinen 20:54, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

perhaps a better example than "electricity" should be given for "e" since it is pronounced quite differently by speakers of american and british english.

[edit] Erroneous examples

I don't know how things work in Finnish, but I was under the impression that ö is not at all the same sound as the vowel in "girl" and "burn". They sound a bit similar, I suppose, but one is a front rounded vowel and the other a rhotic schwa (or something to that effect) and it may be rather misleading to explain the pronunciation that way. Also, Finnish has a length distinction, right?
