Hi - considering Yiddish is written in the Hebrew (Aramaic) script, maybe we could also write in that script rather than just the Romantic/English transliterations. I have a English/Hebrew keyboard, but my Yiddish doesn't really extend far beyond drek and shtup. :)

[edit] considering YIVO
I suggest removing the yivo transliteration completely, instead dedicating a part to the Yiddish alefbet. YIVO is not an alternate orthography for Yiddish, it not more than a mean of transliteration to the English language. Please throw a look at how it is handled in other languages not written in latin - Greek, Persian and Hebrew. I actually believe it should be rewritten completely, animal names and colours are not that helpful; that 3 irregular verbs aren't that helpful either. My Yiddish is more than just rusty, yet I could explain the basics, but I would need helpers. Do we have any literate advanced Yiddish speakers? 84.167.249.71 21:37, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I know a few chuncks of Yiddish and the Alefbet, but by no way in hell I could read the proper version with the original spelling for Aramaic and Hebrew-rooted words. That's why I guess it's called conversational, not literary Yiddish. I'm sure there are plenty of people needing something similar for their stay in Greece or Russia. 79.216.238.200 (talk) 22:08, 9 October 2008 (UTC) EDIT: Knowing the vegetable names hardly suffices even for a conversation about vegetables. The book indeed needs to be rewritten. Can anyone contact the yiddish wikipedians? I'd start greetings or asking directions and time if I knew how.

I suggest throwing away this one completely and starting from scratch. You can grab some pages from the other Yiddish book, such as the reading Yiddish page, but keep in mind that many things will have to be changed to suit the audience (i.e., you'll have to explain how to pronounce all those letters that are the same as Hebrew). And all the examples have to be totally different, and much of the vocabulary. --Clum (talk) 06:32, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
