[edit] Wikibooks:Chess!

I will soon create a name in Wikibooks to alter and elaborate this nascent book. Everyone involved should post their user names so that we can discuss via email or this page and make this a group effort because I'm no grandmaster of chess. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.12.77.226 (talkcontribs) . 14:06, 19 August 2005

Would be interesting to know who you are and when that comment was made. I assume that the Basic Opening became the Opening_theory_in_chess? ChessCreator (talk) 15:14, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I've added the IP address and date for that comment. Νεοπτόλεμος 15:25, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Have now setup Wikibooks:Chess to better improve information and communication on chess-related topics. check it out ;) ChessCreator (talk) 16:55, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The English

I'dd like to get better at the English. It would be helpful if there was some theory behind the openings and variations.

Maybe the different openings could have their own subpages? A linkable table of opening moves could also be helpful...(Nunn's Chess Openings would help, but I'm not sure where copyright issues would be a problem.)

There is a work in progress to give a more in-depth exploration of opening lines, transpositions, and theory. Please go to this link to view and contribute. As for copyright, you can copy moves from any source, but not analysis w/o proper clearance from the copyright holder.--JECompton 04:11, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Exclusive Pronouns

I replaced the exclusive pronouns (he and his) so that women would feel just as welcome participating in chess as men do. 12.168.85.3 12:18, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Basic" openings ?

The title is confusing : the page is supposed to list only the basic openings, but some of the quoted openings aren't basic at all ! Or should we understand it as "the basic moves" of each opening ? or "basic" opening knowledge ?

yea, it's more like a beginners guide to the openings. ChessCreator (talk) 16:10, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blace instead of Black

There is a typo: the word 'Blace' is used once instead of 'Black'

[edit] new opening

A user made a new page at [[Cornstalk Defense]]. I've moved it into the Chess wikibook, but as this page is a list of all the openings, I assume it should be worked into the current page rather than remain a separate entry (Unless, of course, it is not a "basic" opening and would not be appropriately included on this page). I would do it myself, but I don't have the chess knowledge to be confident in my ability to accurately explain it. Here is a link: Chess/Basic Openings/Cornstalk Defense. Thanks, Νεοπτόλεμος 02:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

It's not a basic opening, and such an irregular opening is best moved and covered in Opening_theory_in_chess specifically here Opening_theory_in_chess/1._e4/1...a5 ChessCreator (talk) 15:11, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I've nominated the original for deletion, now that you've put it in its proper place. Νεοπτόλεμος 15:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
