[edit] usage
We should have a fool proof detailed usage chapter for each tool and a detailed shaving description for each part of the body. Separate (sub)chapters for non-unisex parts. Pick your favourite and write.
[edit] Name of the book
It was suggested on the talk page of the Finnish version that the books should be moved under name "Removal of bodyhair" or alike, because e.g. waxing is not shaving. I don't know, if this is the case for the English words. Give your comments on this anyway. --Easyas12c 10:51, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
- I agree the precise definition of shaving is the removal of hair by use of a razor as opposed to waxing or laser or plucking. Depilation refers to the removal of hair and would include all forms of hair removal. --Psychofarm 23:24, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Good ideas here. Perhaps the name of the book could also be something like Hairless skin how-to – to avoid using unfamiliar words and on the other hand long dull names. Dilaudid 10:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Usage of shaving cream
According to an article I read once, using shaving cream in the genitial area causes it's PH value to be disturbed. This is because the PH in this area differs to the rest of the body. You also shouldn't wash this area with soap. I don't know what you should use to shave there though. I use a lot of water.
[edit] Chemical Removal?
Should there be a section discussing [Depilation Creams] and other forms of chemical hair removal?129.64.200.43 18:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think the scope of the book should definitely be extended to cover all forms of depilation – from temporary to permanent. Dilaudid 10:35, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Organization
It seems to me that the subsections could do with more "superheadings": for example, all the different types of razors could be grouped together under "Razors". Dropping the heading level of all the razors, though, seems unacceptable. Perhaps someone more Wikibooks (or just plain Wiki) experienced than I could consider popping the section headings out to their own pages as chapters, and creating appropriate sections (Razors, Lather-producers, Other for Equipment, for example)? [edit] Splitting the Book or Expanding its Scope
I see merits in either splitting off the non-shaving material or changing the title. "Removal of Body Hair" does not work for me; I think most American speakers of English would not consider facial hair to be body hair. "Hair Removal" works better, IMO, and shaving is a kind of hair removal, but I am not sure that shaving would immediately come to my mind if I saw that title.
If the scope is expanded to include epilation, etc., should it also include haircutting (with the title "Hair Removal and Trimming"? That seems like a logical part of the broader topic, but it differs from the rest in that there is no direct contact between the cutting agent and the skin, hair follicles, etc. Peter Chastain (talk) 22:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
