[edit] Recommended Memory Settings

"If you have a good computer with a lot of memory, you might want to increase that limit (up to 64), while if your computer is old and sickly, you may consider decreasing it to 10 or 20."

Can we have a more precise measurement here for the more technically minded? I'm a Blender noob, and don't want to be stuffing it up yet. I'm also guessing they mean RAM, but how much? Clarification please. (unsigned)

I was coming here to ask the same question but realized that most of that answer is subjective. I, like you, assume it's a condition of RAM, considering "old and sickly" are conditions affected by RAM usage. If you consistantly work on files with larger Filesizes, you'd need more RAM than someone who typically works on isolated objects which are then incorporated into a larger file. It's subject to other factors too, such as, are you running other programs at the same time, and how much of your RAM resources are being soaked up by those? (Operating System, Virus Scanners, Network monitors, Image editing software, etc)
I think the most precise way to look at this question is to try the default, and if the program runs smoothly and quickly, you could risk using a higher number, or if there's a sluggish response, perhaps even only on a large file, you could move the number downwards until Blender performed smoothly again.
You didn't sign your comment, so I don't know if you're planning to come back to the page and read this, nor how old your question is, nor how to contact you at this point with my answer. Please sign your comments by typing --~~~~ at the end of your post, or by using the "Signature/Timestamp Button" found directly above the edit area.
Also you should use the "Plus" sign to add another topic to a discussion page. I went back and gave you a title, etc, manually. --Deadguy (talk) 17:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Blender wants to save in the administrator directory (windows)

You should propably mention that blender tries to save it's pereferences in the administrator user directory even if the user has a restricted account (see here). 217.80.243.183 (talk) 22:23, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Blender saves current size of Preferences Window

Might want to add a note that preferences window size is one of the preferences saved. --Wgoelkel (talk) 04:10, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
