Talk:Blender 3D: Noob to Pro/How to Do Procedural Landscape Modeling
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
This is the same as Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Making_Landscapes_with_heightmaps
Commenting here while going through the book in order: shouldn't this be merged with other pages? The "making the mesh" is basically the same thing as the previous page did. The texture generation used here is IMHO better than what the previous page has, since it does not rely on a separate 2d program (not everyone has the Gimp installed, and when it is not installed it can be a bit of a hassle to figure out how to generate a similar texture). The other "material" settings on this page are completely out of the blue, since this part of the book is about modeling (as far as I can tell those settings have no effect in the 3d view, only when rendered).
And just throwing this out there, although it is likely mentioned in a part of the book I have not gotten to yet: should the "displace" modifier be mentioned as an alternative to the "noise" button here? As far as I can tell it does basically the same thing but is not permanent, which can be an advantage.
[edit] Does this belong here?
This page seems to assume the reader knows how to use materials, textures, and other topics that haven't been covered yet.
[edit] repetition
I'm going through this tutorial and think this page is a good repetition. It's another possibilty to create landscapes and I've learned more about the different buttons. It's a difficult programm so it's helpful to repeat some things. Just leave the page here, it's ok.
