[edit] The cleanup is in progress

The content of this wikibook is not being moved to AvernumScript, I consider it easier to simply cut and paste the text from here into notepad, neaten it up and transfer it to the relevant page. This page is being left here until that process is completed. Others are welcome to join in, if they feel like it. --Xoid

[edit] Cleanup

I feel like cleanning this book up. I'm going to be moving it to a more appropriately named page, rewriting swathes of it, and generally improving it. Other members of the BoA community, feel free to join in. As of 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC) I have made two suggestions which I would like broad comment on; a new name and editing conventions.

If I do not manage to garner any of the Blades of Avernum community's attention on this within 14 days of 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC), I will act of my own initiative. If only myself and one other person gives this any attention, then decisions will be made between us, and so on. So if you disagree with my vision for this cleanup, put it in writing. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Some groundrules on voting for those unfamiliar with wikis:

  1. Please use bullets * at the start of your comment for the sake of organization.
  2. Sign any recommendation or comment you add, by adding this at the end: --~~~~.
  3. Your opinion will be given the most weight if you are logged in with an account that already existed when the nomination was made. Unregistered and new users are welcome to contribute to the discussion, but their recommendations may be discounted, especially if they seem to be made in bad faith (for example, if they misrepresent their reasons).
  4. Please make your recommendation only once. If there is evidence that someone is using sock puppets (multiple accounts belonging to the same person) to make multiple recommendations, such additional recommendations will be discounted.
  5. MAKE SURE YOUR VOTES ARE CLEAR. Please put your vote in bold text. Make all the witty comments you want, just make sure your vote is visible and explicit. Editors usually only state their suggested course of action in bold, such as "keep" or "delete". See my votes as an example.

[edit] New Name

[edit] AvernumScript Reference

  • Against. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
  • For. I feel more wishy-washy than a politician courting a minority. --Xoid 01:01, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blades of Avernum Scripting Reference

  • For. More appropriately named, less likely to be confused with a proper programming language, or a proper scripting language for that matter. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Against. Considering my original opinion was "If they're confused, screm 'em.", I'm suprised that I both tried to empathise with the potentially confused user browsing wikibooks, even more so that I put it in writing. --Xoid 00:58, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Against. The language is called Avernumscript. There's no need to make an enormously long name.--Kelandon 17:37, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Conventions

[edit] Page Structure

At the moment, I like the overall way that the Blades of Avernum Script Reference looks, but it needs to be converted into a more viewer-friendly style. I suggest that we go with the flat page structure rather than deep page structure. See Naming policy for more information. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deep Page Structure
  • Against. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Flat Page Structure
  • For. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling

There are two main types of english on this planet, incorrect English, and correct English. Since incorrect english is what the book was written in originally, I say that it should remain that way. However, there are people who may contribute with British English. If you find any correct English, please change it to incorrect English.

  • Your unique sense of humor aside, American English is the standard of Spiderweb Software, and there's no reason to change it, so I agree. --Kelandon 17:42, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bugged Calls

I'm thinking that a new page should be added, listing bugs and work arounds (if any). Beyond the proposing the idea, and an initial version, I'm not really up to maintaining this sort of thing. I might not even be able to finish a comprehensive listing, mainly due to other commitments. --Xoid 10:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

If you have ideas, or feel like claiming this task as your own, say so here.

  • There are already two pages that, between them, have all known bugs in BoA: Spiderweb's bugs page and my bugs thread. Whoever ends up working on this would do well to start with these two things. --Kelandon 17:48, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
