Talk:Biblical Studies
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
Does the title "old testament commentaries" imply that this wiki-book is intended to be from a Christian viewpoint?
[edit] NPOV issues
This book appears to be of non-secular character and of little academic use. I am of the opinion that Wikibooks should not be used to churn out evangelical material-RavichandarMy coffee shop 10:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Nothing in the Wikibooks NPOV policy excludes books of religious character. The Bible has profoundly influenced Western culture in secular as well as religious ways. To be entirely ignorant of the Bible is to fail to understand modern and postmodern Western culture. Nothing limits those who may comment on a biblical subject to an Evangelical perspective. Unbelievers are as free to contribute as believers. Bible classes are taught in many state universities from an avowedly neutral, even antagonistic stance, sometimes by faculty members who profess no religous faith themselves. Thus, there is no sound reason why this book should not have a place among the Wiki collection. [gllyons 5 January 2009]
[edit] Category:Christian Theology
I see that at least one page in Category:Christian Theology is currently a free-floating orphan. Should it (and the other pages in that category) be attached to this book? By "attach" I mean, renaming those pages with a name that begins with "Biblical Studies/", and then editing some list of chapters already in this book to add links to those pages. --DavidCary (talk) 03:52, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] No
Biblical studies is a distinct discipline from Christian theology. Biblical studies should have a focus on the history of the bible and its historical context and interpretations while Christian theology should approach it from the point of view of a believer. Keep the two separate.
