[edit] Welcome

In the absence of a developed Wikipedia article, I suggest the following U.S. Army Corp of Engineers soil mechanics manual: Laboratory Soils Testing, available at [1] I work in the area of geotechnical engineering and have used this manual frequently.

The father of modern geotechnical engineering, Karl Terzaghi, wrote in depth about soil mechanics. Two references are good for introduction: Theoretical Soil Mechanics and Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice.
