Welcome to Scribunto: An Introduction. This book is a guide to using Scribunto for non-programmers. It will tell you everything you need to know about Scribunto, from what it is, to how to write your own Scribunto programs.

This book is aimed at readers who are interested in learning more about Scribunto, but don't have any significant programming experience. Perhaps you have heard about Scribunto, but are not exactly sure what it is. Perhaps you want to run a Scribunto program that somebody else has written, but are confused about how to do so. Perhaps you are experienced with writing MediaWiki templates, and want to see how template coding can be translated to Scribunto coding. Or perhaps you want to learn how to program, and would like to have your work used in real life on a wiki powered by MediaWiki.
Readers who already know one or more programming languages might find that this book covers much familiar ground. Such readers may find it quicker to browse some of the materials listed in the Resources chapter or to consult the Scribunto reference manual. Even so, these readers may consider looking at the chapters that introduce constructs and libraries that are specific to Scribunto, as they are covered in more depth than they are in the reference manual.
