Revit Users Manual
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
Revit is Building Information Modeling (BIM) sofware for Microsoft Windows developed by Autodesk. Like ArchiCAD, it allows the user to design with parametric modelling and drafting elements. There are three software packages within the Revit BIM family of software: Revit Building, Revit Structure, and Revit MEP. Each package is targeted toward the Architectural, structural, and mechanical/electrical/process disciplines respectively. Autodesk purchased the software from Massachusetts-based Revit Technologies in 2002. The latest released version is 2009.

[edit] Revit Families
Revit models are essentially made up of various different families. These families are parametric objects that can take two- and/or three-dimensional form in the project model, and can appear in any view including schedules. Mastering family creation in Revit is a key part of building great building information models.

[edit] Revit Architecture
Revit Architecure 2009 is one of the three flavors of the Revit platform. Architecture 09 comes from the original Revit Building and has the tools needed for architecture building information models and has some structure tools that can be used to build simple building information models.
[edit] Revit MEP
Revit MEP 2009 is the youngest of the three Revit platform flavors. As the name implies MEP 09 is for designing and documenting mechanical, electrical and plumbing building information models.
[edit] Revit Structure
Revit Structure 2009 is the flavor of Revit that is for designing and documenting different building structures. Structure 09 has the ability to export to a number of structural analysis packages and also offers various extensions for making several tasks, such as, modeling rebar "easier".
[edit] Revit VSTA Macros
Revit 2009 now includes VSTA for creating macros. The interface is similar to Microsoft Office macros.
[edit] Versions
The current version of Revit is 2009. Web Update 1 for Revit 2009 was released in June, 2008.
