Quenya is an artificial language created by the English philologist and author of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, etc., J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973). The native language of the High Elves, Quenya was inspired by Finnish and Latin. It has nine cases (nominative, genitive, possessive, dative, allative, ablative, locative, instrumental, respective) and five verbal tenses (including the aorist, based upon the Greek tense with the same name).

Disclaimer: This WikiBook is about Neo-Quenya and not a serious study of Tolkien's Quenya ; there never existed a finished language "Quenya" made by Tolkien. Lots of facts in this grammar are invented by the author. It contains lots of vocabulary from Qenya, an earlier incarnation of what would become Quenya in the late 50's. This WikiBook is meant to be used as a reference "as is". It is not meant to be authoritative in any way.
