[edit] Anderssen's Opening
[edit] 1. a3
Named after the German chess player Adolf Anderssen, who played this opening a few times against Morphy. This is a waiting move that doesn't do anything useful itself.
Normal replies would be
- 1...e5
- 1...d5
- 1...g6 Would also be sensible because the Bishop cannot go to the b4 square and is therefore better placed along the h8-a1 diagonal
