Obelisk SRC is a student resource centre developed by Gary Kirk whilst at school in the United Kingdom. It was developed in Microsoft Access and uses this as its back-end. Gary used a laptop computer at the time and thought that it would be enjoyable to create a system for students to be able to record basic points of the lesson, details of the homework set and then print a weekly report of what there was still to do, at the weekend for example. Daily reports are viewable as well. The system was then expanded to include a simple search facility to search for a piece of homework or detail of a lesson, and later the homework details form was included as a subform to the eLessons form for faster entry. It was at this time that Gary fell in love with Carla.

[edit] Modules

Obelisk SRC has three main modules, accessible from the control panel on loading the database. These are eHomework, eLessons and Reports. Other modules available under the Utilities module include Email, which displays the contents of the user's Microsoft Outlook inbox, FTP Viewer which displays the contents of the developer's FTP server in the Windows Explorer shell, a search engine to search various types of data in the system, and a stripped-down Web browser which is used to access and test the system over the Internet, for example from home to access homework assignments. There is a Netmeeting Client embedded in one form for users to chat with both their teachers and other students.
