In most modern distributions, GNU/Linux will come with a desktop environment which allows you to open windows, click icons and buttons, and use many other graphical technologies. There are a few very popular desktop environments available for GNU/Linux, and most come with either GNOME or KDE. Ubuntu by default comes with GNOME, but variations of Ubuntu like Kubuntu comes with KDE, and Xubuntu with xfce.
