Tying a Three String English Sinnet

Making a three-string English sinnet[edit | edit source]

The three-string English sinnet is the most simple sinnet to create. You start by putting the three strings next to each other. Then you pick the left string and cross it over the middle string, making the left string the middle string and vice-versa. Then, you pick the right string, and cross it over the middle string, making the right string the middle string, and vice-versa. Repeat this process alternating the left and right string, until the desired length is reached.

Description[edit | edit source]

This sinnet is a braid, and is therefore primarily used for decoration. Another use for this sinnet is creating a stronger rope by braiding several weaker ropes. A three-string English sinnet will create a rope three times stronger than either of the three individual ropes (provided the three ropes used were of the same quality and strength).
