  • The first meter was installed in 1939.
  • The stamps are grouped according to inscription and emblem in the frank as follows:
A - “ΕΛΛΑΣ” and crown (1939-1966)
B - “ΕΛΛΑΣ”, “HELLAS” and crown (1964-1973)
C - “ΕΛΛΑΣ”, “HELLAS” and phoenix (June 1973-August 1974)
D - “ΕΛΛΑΣ” and “HELLAS” without crown or phoenix
E - "ΕΛΛΑΣ” and “HELLAS” with "Hellenic Post" logo (ΕΛΤΑ + head of Mercury)


  • Note that both Roman and Western numerals are commonly used for the month in meter dates.


GROUP A: Frank contains “ΕΛΛΑΣ” and crown[edit | edit source]

  • In use till 1966



A1. Hasler "F22" and “F88” (MV), 1939.

“ΕΛΛΑΣ” and crown at top.

TM lowered with 5-digit impression counter number above.

GROUP PV – Self-service variable-rate stamp vending machine franks[edit | edit source]


PV1. Frama , 1979.
One machine trialled for one day only, 13th April 1979.
Frank resembles a standard Greek Frama label but with a box, broken at left, containing "ΑΘΗΝΑI" at the top with the date and hour figure in the centre.
Printed on a white label.
