The earliest meter was installed in 1953. All stamps inscribed “REPUBLICA DE EL SALVADOR” or “CORREOS EL SALVADOR”.
Catalog values are not provided due to low demand, but several of the stamp types are scarce to rare.





1. Pitney Bowes “R” (MV), 1953.

No outer frame. Country name at top above TM, cap/mountain logo, and value box.
Small “AMERICA CENTRAL” above value box.
M# with “P.B. prefix below value box.

2. Pitney Bowes “DM” (LV-21).

Similar to Type 1 but much narrower.
M# prefix “P.B.” at lower left of TM, M# below cap/mountain logo.

Values: 1 through 21 ?



3. Pitney Bowes “R” (MV).

No outer frame line. Small coat of arms without rays between TM and value box.
Country name and “CORREOS” above coat of arms and value box.
M# with “P.B.” prefix below coat of arms.

4. Universal “MultiValue” (MV), 1953.

Horizontal rectangle with country name across top.
DC TM at left, coat of arms at center, value figures at right.
M# with “U” prefix at bottom center.
“CENTAVOS” underlined below value figures.

5. Pitney Bowes “Automax” (MV).

Without outer frame line.
Country name in two lines above coat of arms and value figures.
“COLONES” below value figures.
M# with “P.B.” prefix.

6. Hasler “F88” (MV).

Similar to Type 5 but country name smaller in one line.
“CENTAVOS” underlined below value figures.

Very similar to Type 6 but with smaller coat of arms and larger date and value figures.
M# with “SJ” prefix.

8. Satas “SJ” (MV).

Very similar to Type 7 but text is smaller and with different coat of arms.
“CORREOS” added below country name.
M# with “SJ” prefix.

9. Postalia (MV).

Upright straight-line frank with country name in two lines at top.
Coat of arms at bottom right with “CENTAVOS” at left.
M# with “P” prefix below “CENTAVOS”.
A. Very wide spacing between TM and frank.
B. Narrow spacing between TM and frank.

10. Francotyp “Taxograph” (MV).

Post Office stamp.
Horizontal frank with simulated-perforation outer border and straight line inner border.
M# with “T” prefix vertical breaking left frame lines in middle.
TM is rectangle with rounded corners.
With or without “R” and number (for registration) between TM and frank.
One seen, meter number T-1.
V/F: 000
a. With directional slug below town mark, “CERT AEREA” seen (shown). Others presumably exist.
