The first meter stamps appeared in 1953 during the period of French administration. The stamps are grouped according to their political inscription as follows:
- A – French administered UN trusteeship, inscribed “R FRANCAIS F”, 1953 – 1959
- B – Independent federation, inscribed “CAMEROUN” or “ETAT DU CAMEROUN”, 1959 – 1961
- C – Republic, inscribed “REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN” or variation, 1961 to present
- PO – Stamp designs unique to Post Office use
NOTE: Stamps from Groups A and B are known used after the changes in political status.

- evenly spaced and with continuous underline beneath “REPUBLIQUE DU”.

- The date figures are on same level as value figures.

- “REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN” at top with “CAMPOST” logo immediately below.
- Country name in English at bottom with M# with “NP” prefix immediately above.
- TM box with "CAMEROON POSTAL SERVICES" in English at top followed by "Courrier des Administrations et des Entreprises (CADEN)"
- (Mail of the Administration and of Companies), with date, mailer's identity, and town name at bottom.

PO1. GAPA (digital).
- Self-adhesive label with preprinted design in blue: a tall structure with curved sides at left, “CAMEROUN” in the center, and “P/O/S/T/E/S” vertically at right.
- Frank has simulated-perforation border, "REPUBLIQUE/ du CAMEROUN" at top, value figures at center above "POSTES" and M# at bottom.
- M# with "GO" prefix.
- TM is a rectangle, hour figure between the TM and frank
