International Postage Meter Stamp Catalog/Argentina
[edit] Argentina
The first postage meter was placed into use in 1926. All stamps contain “REPUBLICA ARGENTINA” in the frank. Instead of a meter number they contain a permit number. The permit number usually has prefix “PERMISO” or “PERM.” with “No.” or “N” and sometimes occurs without prefix. The stamps are grouped according to appearance and function as follows:
- A - Upright oval
- B - Small upright rectangle with simulated perforation border, value in lower left corner with emanating rays
- C - Wide rectangle with pillars at sides
- D - Upright rectangle with simulated perforation outer and straight line inner border, REPUBLICA ARGENTINA in arc, FRANQUEO/PAGADO at bottom, P# below value

NOTE: This meter was demonstrated at the stamp show “ESPAMER ‘81”. Souvenir impressions from the show are worth less than the catalog value which is for an example on non-philatelic cover.
[edit] Sub-group PO-B: Frank and TM are both plain rectangles. The TM has slightly rounded corners.
- Stamps of sub-group PO-B often have a directional slug appearing some distance below the frank or TM. Examples are:
- CERTIFICADA CERT. EXPRESO ENDA
- CERT. AEREA CERT. EXPR. AEREA
- These machines give receipts that resemble the stamps without the frank frame and with “RECIBO” below the value figures.
- Between 1981 and 1983 several post offices applied rubber stamps to Type PO-B franked covers to indicate that the postage value is ten times greater than what the meter stamp showed. This was due to inflation outpacing the capabilities of the machines.
