The historical period of Indepdendent Greece covers the historical events starting from the recognition if its autonomy from the Ottoman Empire in 1828 by the Great Powers after the Greek War of Independece, up to the fall of the military dictatorship and the restoration of democracy. The events in the aftermath of its independence, mostly revolve around recurrent themes of political instability and attempts by the state to follow the western ideals, such as having one centralized authority to govern the Greek people, which often had fierce antagonism by local rulers.
