An alliance management capability measure was conceptualized and operationalized. It is reflected by five underlying routines: interorganizational coordination, alliance portfolio coordination, interorganizational learning, alliance proactiveness, and alliance transformation.

Alliance proactiveness is defined as the extent of routines to identify potentially valuable partnering opportunities.
