U.S. Executive Order 13112

General Description[edit | edit source]

Executive Order 13112 requires that a Council of Departments dealing with invasive species be created.

Purpose[edit | edit source]

To prevent the introduction of invasive species and provide for their control and to minimize the economic, ecological, and human health impacts that invasive species cause.

Structure and Objectives[edit | edit source]

The Council, comprised of the heads of several departments (Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Interior, etc.), is assigned the role of providing national leadership regarding invasive species, including:

Overseeing the implementation of this order and ensuring that the Federal agency activities concerning invasive species are coordinated, complementary, cost-efficient, and effective

Encouraging planning and action at local, tribal, State, regional, and ecosystem-based levels

Developing recommendations for international cooperation in addressing invasive species
