Chapter 80

The February 24, 1944 issue of The Weems Weekly has a headline that reads, "Icebox Follies a Sidesplitter." The event is an annual show put on by the Dill Pickle Club. Grady Kilgore is Shirley Temple and sings "On the Good Ship Lollipop." Wilbur sings and Dot thinks he is good, but she is used to hearing him sing in the shower. The funds raised will be used to help the needy in Whistle Stop. Dot hopes the war will be over because everyone misses the boys. She is glad Wilbur is old and has flat feet, so he doesn't have to go.

Analysis[edit | edit source]

The Dill Pickle Club is alive and well. The club does charity work all along, but tries to hide behind the fishing, drinking and crazy stories. They raise money to help needy neighbors with the show.
