Exercise as it relates to Disease/Exercise induced asthma and environmental factors
Exercise Induced Asthma and Winter Sport Athletes
Asthma is a condition that affects the airflow available to the lungs as a result of constricted airways and increased mucous production. Exercise induced asthma is similar to asthma but occurs as a result of exercise. Exercise induced asthma is defined as the reversible narrowing of the airways that occurs during or following a bout of exercise. Symptoms include shortness of breath, dyspnoea, wheezing, coughing and chest pain (1). EIA can occur in people with existing asthma and people who only experience asthma symptoms as a result of exercise. EIA can limit athletic performance (4).
