Exercise Induced Asthma and Winter Sport Athletes[edit]

Asthma is a condition that affects the airflow available to the lungs as a result of constricted airways and increased mucous production. Exercise induced asthma is similar to asthma but occurs as a result of exercise. Exercise induced asthma is defined as the reversible narrowing of the airways that occurs during or following a bout of exercise[1]. Symptoms include shortness of breath, dyspnoea, wheezing, coughing and chest pain (1). EIA can occur in people with existing asthma and people who only experience asthma symptoms as a result of exercise. EIA can limit athletic performance (4).
