Receiving receives the physical goods from suppliers, verifies their quantity and quality and delivers them to their destination within the enterprise. It interacts with Purchasing by flagging Purchase Order lines as received and, after authorization from Purchasing, with Inventory by reducing on-order and increasing on-hand quantities. See Purchasing for a description of invoice matching. Normally, Shipping and Receiving occur in the same physical location. All ERP packages have a receiving function although it might be included in Inventory rather than made a separate module.
