[edit] "ss?"

What in the world is an "ss" (appears as abbrev. in recipe)? I've looked all over, and can't figure it out. ____ spoons? Jessicapierce 20:59, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I left this until I could do a bit of a search. I came up with this marvellous website, which has lots of arcane and obscure units of measurement.
When ss appears next to another measurement, it means half (Latin semis), and is used in old apothecary recipes (medicines and tonics). Not this one, then!
Likely candidate is saltspoon, which is ΒΌ of a teaspoon, about 1.2 mL. Webaware talk 23:57, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
