[edit] "ss?"
What in the world is an "ss" (appears as abbrev. in recipe)? I've looked all over, and can't figure it out. ____ spoons? Jessicapierce 20:59, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I left this until I could do a bit of a search. I came up with this marvellous website, which has lots of arcane and obscure units of measurement.
- When ss appears next to another measurement, it means half (Latin semis), and is used in old apothecary recipes (medicines and tonics). Not this one, then!
- Likely candidate is saltspoon, which is ΒΌ of a teaspoon, about 1.2 mL. Webaware talk 23:57, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
