Traditional Latvian cuisine is dominated by simple 'peasant style' foods. They are typically high in fat and are widely considered to be low in flavour. Potatoes, grey peas and meat all feature widely.

Modern Latvian cooking is more European in taste, with Riga having many high quality restaurants.
