Basque is an ancient language spoken in the Basque country (Spain) and Northern Basque Country (France). It is spoken as a first language by more than 1 million people.

Unlike all other languages in Europe Basque is an isolated language meaning that it is not related to any other language in the world. Because of the uniqueness of Basque it can be difficult for people to learn as a second language.
