A good text book is the product of the contributory efforts of many different sources and authors. This WIKIBOOK is a little different, though. It allows you, the reader to add to the meat of knowledge which is contained within these paragraphs. As you read this document, you will learn about Society's efforts to prevent and control criminal activities within itself. Specifically, you will learn about the structure and function of each of the major components of the system that has been charged with the responsibility of surgically removing criminal elements from the depths of Society. You will no doubt, as a result of your studies, develop your own perspectives and understandings about how things work and how they should work. Feel free to add a paragraph or three or four to the various topic presented when you feel that your own understanding will augment everybody else's. That is the idea behind the Wiki Project. The knowledge that one has actually brought a perpetrator of criminal offenses to Justice provides a certain flavor of self respect, pride, and honor that no amount of money can buy. It can only be had through hard work, wiktionary:dedication, and a willingness to stretch the self well beyond its limits for the sake of finding, apprehending, prosecuting, and successfully convicting an Offender. That is why Crime Fighting is such a great career.
