Annotations[edit | edit source]

Bueñas noches, señorita Blanca, que calle es esta?     (Spanish) Good evening, Miss White, what street is this? Gabler partially corrects Joyce's faulty Spanish and breaks the statement in two: Buenas noches, señorita Blanca. Que calle es esta? There should be an extra accent and to fully conform to Spanish usage there should also be in inverted question mark before the question: ¿Qué calle es esta?

Sraid Mabbot     (Irish) Mabbot Street. There should be an accent on the first a: Sráid Mabbot. Mabbot Street was renamed Corporation Street, which was recently renamed James Joyce Street.

Merci     (French) Thank you.

Slan leath     (Errata) The correct spelling is: Slán leat.

Slán leat     (Irish) Goodbye. This farewell is said especially to someone who is departing.
