What it is:

This is designed to be an informative technical guide for the implementation of Microsoft[1] Windows Vista [2] operating system whether by clean install or upgrading from the approved operating systems. I hope to see an ongoing community collaboration of updated materials as this will greatly simplify research for the average technician and home user alike by centralizing information into one resource location. This book's Sole intent is to help technicians plan ahead for the purchase of Windows Vista. These are experienced but not necessarily expert opinions on compatibility issues when installing Windows Vista. It is primarily up to the readers to research the material in this book and is meant solely for a reference resource only.

Example: Turn Off services

  • Windows Search Service: The Windows Search service indexes user areas of the hard disks in order to provide instant search from the Start Menu. If you wish to revert back to the old Windows XP-style manual search, you can turn off this service to increase performance.
  1. Turn off the service: SO I set off to disable the service all together which is just one option to help try and regain resource usage. If you go to "Administration Tools" and then to "Services" and drill down to "Windows Search" you will see that service is set to "automatic" and "started".

  2. Disable rarely searched file extensions:

  3. Manually remove a folder ĐĐfrom being indexed:
