AP Biology/Animal Behavior
Appearance
Animal behavior includes simple behavior such as taxis response, but can be complicated, such as mating, territoriality, spacing, kin selection, and naviagation.
- Natural Selection
- Kin Selection
- Navigation
- Animals uses compasses, maps, and path integration to orient themselves in space. Compasses provide a sense of direction. Maps provide orientation in space and both elements are required. Also included in navigation is taxis, which can be in reference to the earth, gravity, light, or other stimuli.
- Territoriality
- Mating Systems
- Includes monogamy, polyandry, polygyny, and polygyandry. It is thought to be affected by the level of parental involvement possible.
- Monogamy
- One male to one female, often occurs in birds
